Poise vs posture correctors: reminders or a brace?

Published

A physical posture brace applies tension around the shoulders or upper back. Poise uses headphone motion to notice head tilt and give an audio reminder. They work differently; this page does not establish that either produces better long-term results.

A sensor device is a third approach

Some wearable products use a sensor attached to the upper back and give vibration feedback. That is different from a brace applying physical tension and different from head-motion readings in headphones. Check a particular product's current instructions rather than treating every item sold as a posture corrector as the same thing.

At your desk or on a walk

Poise fits a routine in which you already wear supported headphones connected to your iPhone. If they are connected to your computer instead, check the phone connection. Without usable headphone motion, Poise cannot monitor head position.

Poise also needs a useful baseline and settings that suit the session. Phone awareness, active hours and background monitoring can affect reminders. Read the desk setup guide before comparing an expected pause with a product failure.

Walking is another useful setting for a head-position reminder. Poise has separate walking preferences, so you can set those differently from your desk sessions. Use Poise while walking to set them up.

Costs and availability

Poise's listed plans are $9.99 per month or $69.99 per year. The annual plan includes a free trial for eligible subscribers; the monthly plan does not. Supported headphones and an iPhone are required separately. Check pricing and current launch availability before deciding.

Brace and wearable prices vary by product, region and retailer. This revision removes the earlier unsourced retail ranges rather than presenting them as current prices. Compare the exact product, return policy and any recurring accessory costs at the point of purchase.

What this comparison does not tell you

This page does not test lasting habit change, muscle effects or comparative accuracy. A product mechanism is not evidence of a particular outcome. Poise's reminder is a cue to notice head position, not a whole-body assessment. Read its detection limits.

For headphone details, use the compatibility guide. Follow any physical product's own fitting and use instructions.
